voki – connecting through animated audio avatars

Voki lets you create animate avatars that you can easily add your voice to. The fact that they do allow recording via telephone means that the bar is lowered for the recording which is good. It’s just in an alpha release right now, but I think this could change the game in a lot of ways. I just read a report about video resumes, which I think are a bit hokey, but this seems to be on the same idea. Moving our whole personality onto the Web and not just our written words. Oddcast, the parent of Voki, has been around for a while, but didn’t seem to get much traction.
Avatars are huge these days and are everywhere from Second Life to Meez, but this is the first that I’ve seen add voice. We have a lot of choices about how we represent ourselves online, and this is just the next step.
Thanks to Mashable for the tip! Be sure to check out the Voki blog to see what they are doing during this early Alpha release.
