Let’s face it broadcast radio is awful. Like many, I listen to a lot of Internet Radio at work. Thankfully it is much more diverse than what ClearChannel seems to be willing to play. While I fully understand that it is a business, Internet radio is not a threat to the music business. Encourage Congress to roll back the changes and allow Internet radio to be viable.
Last.fm, one of my music sites of choice seems unphased by all this, but this will affect public radio stations’ online components as well small Internet broadcasters. Internet radio allows bands that otherwise would NEVER get airplay to be heard. It’s one thing for Fox to pay for play on MySpace — but what if it means that individuals on MySpace have to pay the royalties? What about BluegrassCountry.org? When public radio station WAMU took bluegrass music off the air, it gave it a home online. What happens to all of this music?
